Little Girl Lost: A Child Star's Descent Into Addiction and Out Again by Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore was born on February 22, 1975. She was a descendant of one of the most famous theatrical families in America, the Barrymores. Her father, John Drew Barrymore, was a drug addict, and Drew had a rocky relationship with him while she was growing up. She became famous after she landed a role in the Steven Spielberg film "E.T." As a child star, she was allowed into nightclubs, and was frequently exposed to drugs and alcohol.
Drew was burning out, and needed help. She was abusing drugs herself, and had to be forcibly entered into a rehab program. In this program she was forced to face problems that she had ignored for most of her young life. Facing these problems allowed her to deal with them in a more constructive way to become the successful actress she is now.
