Book Review By Nathaniel Ford
Ozzie by Ozzie Nelson

Ozzie Nelson began his showbusiness career at the age of 14 when he was paid five dollars to play for the local Woman's Club dance in his hometown of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. Ozzie's band became so popular that people were willing to pay ten dollars a night to hear them perform.
Ozzie played football for Rutgers University, but decided to become a professional musician. He led one of the most popular big bands of the 1930s, and became an established radio personality. A woman named Harriet Hilliard was hired to be the band's singer, and they soon fell in love and got married. The Nelsons worked with almost every star of that era, stars such as, Bing Crosby and Red Skelton. The couple had two sons, David and Ricky. The family got its own television show in 1952, it was called, "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet". The show remained on the air until 1966.
