The Bourne Ultimatum by Robert Ludlum

David Webb is living a peaceful life in Maine as a historian, until his two close friends, Alex Conklin and Morris Panov tell him that his life is in danger. After hearing about this, David moves his family to his brother in law's mansion, and heads to Virginia where he and Conklin figure out what the whole affair is about. After many discussions, the two find out that the legendary assassin Carlos the Jackal is after David Webb. It's obvious what the Jackal wants - one final confrontation with Jason Bourne, a role that David was forced to play in order to catch the Jackal many years ago. A source from the CIA informs Webb that the Jackal is in Paris; therefore, he goes there in his hunt for Carlos. In Paris, David must become who he loathed. He must become the man he was forced to be thirteen years ago - Jason Bourne. It's his only way to catch the Jackal. As Jason Bourne, he bribes many individuals who are close to the Jackal, to tell him his whereabouts. Finally Bourne discovers that the Jackal operates a charity organization in a remote location in Paris. He makes his way there, and after a heated battle with loads of gun fire, Jason discovers that the Jackal wasn't there at all. This obviously caused much frustration, so he sends a message to Carlos that will lure him to Moscow. In Moscow, Jason goes through many fights and is finally led to the Jackal, who has plans to destroy a famous military training organization called Novgorod. In Novgorod, a huge war begins between Carlos the Jackal and Jason Bourne.
