| Johanna is a girl who once had an abusive husband. When she found out the he died she was full of relief and the last thing that she wanted was to be married again. Her brother realized this, but also realized that she needed to marry. She is given in marrage to Gabriel McBain, a handsom Scot whom she fears for no other reason then that she does not trust any man save her brother. She does marry him however, because both he and her brother convince her that the King would have her marry anyway.
