Dinotopia Lost by Alan Dean Foster

Dinotopia is the land where dinosaurs and humans live together peacefully. It is surrounded by an impenetrable coral reef.   One season a violent storm lifts the pirate ship Condor right over the reef and into a lagoon. Captain Blackstrap leads a group of pirates ashore to replenish their supplies. On shore they discover a family of Struthiomimuses. Blackstrap decides that they would be worth a fortune and he captures them. He decides to see if there are more of these strange creatures on the island, and he begins a trek into the Rainy Basin, the only part of Dinotopia where carnivores live. One of the young Struthiomimuses manages to escape and go for help. A few days later the pirates capture a baby Tyrannosaur. When the parents come back to the nest and discover their baby gone, they start to track the pirates.
Meanwhile, the young Struthiomimuses has managed to get to Treetown, but she collapses from exhaustion. Will Denison is an apprentice at Treetown, and he helps the doctor treat her. Since he knows a few words in the Struthiomimuses language he stays until the translator comes. Once she is conscious, the Struthiomimuses is frantic to return and help her family, and she insists on leaving right away. So Will and the translator, Chaz, accompany her. Just after entering the Rainy Basin, they encounter the Tyrannosaur parents, who demand to know where their daughter is. Chaz is barely able to reason with them. The parents finally agree to not eat them in return for their help finding the pirates. It will take all of Will's talents and training to find and rescue all the captives before the Tyrannosaur parents loose patience and eat them.
