No Man's Land: A Young Soldier's Story by Susan Bartoletti

Fourteen year old Thrasher Magee is the son of farmer. He lives in Georgia. He wants to join the Confederate Army, but one has to be at least 18 years of age to join. He writes the number 18 on a piece of paper and sticks it in his shoe. When the Major asks him if he is over 18, he can honestly say that he is. Thrasher and his friend Baylor get assigned to the Okefenokee Rifles, a company in the 26th Georgia regiment.

They are then moved to Camp Semmes, where they train for many days. Finally they get orders to move to Virginia to fight with General Stonewall Jackson. They meet some Yankees and they decide to play them in a game of baseball at the place they call No Mans Land. Fianlly a great battle occurs, The Seven Days Battle.
