Book Review By Hannah Warnaar
Victoria and the Rogue by Meg Cabot

Lady Victoria Arbuthnot has grown up in India, an orphan, raised by her uncles. When her 'enterprising' (ie matchmaking and forceful) personality becomes a bit much for them, they pack her off to live with her only other relatives, her mother's sister's family. Luckily for Victoria, she'll have her own little secret to keep her warm in the cold English weather - because on the boat to England from India, she becomes engaged to the handsome, dashing Lord Malfrey.
If only an equally dashing and handsome, but slightly more irritating captain would leave her and Lord Malfrey alone...
But Captain Jack Carstairs knows what he wants, and it's Victoria. On their arrival in England, Victoria is annoyed when she realises that her new guardians are very well aquainted with the captain. It looks like she won't be able to get rid of him so soon after all.

But there is truth to what Captain Jack has to say. Lord Malfrey has fallen on hard times, and Victoria is quite fantastically rich. In short, Malfrey is a fortune hunter, and has no love for her at all. When Jack helps Victoria to realise this, she dumps Malfrey, to his and his mother's outrage. They won't take this - so they devise a plan to abduct Victoria for one night, forcing her to marry the impoverished lord. She manages to escape - with Jack Carstairs' help. Has she been in love with him all along?
