The independent and opened minded Camilla Ferrand was desperatedly in need of a fiancee to present to her ill Grandfather at home. She had made up the imaginary fiancee in the letters she sent to her aunt just to please her and the beloved grandpa since she was living away from home.
On the way home, Camilla accidentally met Benedict Wincross, who was being chased by some men with guns. She assumed that he led a low-life, and he sneared at her being a "bluestocking". However, they found the need of the other for their own purpose. Benedict was on a mission to investigate a smuggling operation in the territory of the Earl of Chevington, who happened to be Camilla's grandpa. What Camilla didn't expect was that her betrothed state had been upgraded to married by her worried aunt. The couple found themselves dangerously attracted to each other and it was a hardship to keep the hands off each other when they had to share kiss and caress in front of her family at days and to sleep in the same room at nights. Camilla worried what would become of their relationship when she finished her business here and went back to London. Benedict knew it hurt but he couldn't keep his true identity and motive a secret to her forever once he pointed his finger at the smuggler. | ||
