God's Bits Of Wood by Sembene Ousmane

The previous strike staged by African workers in senegal was disastrously settled by deaths and no postive out comes were realised yet it still lives in the minds of aged Africans like Niakoro who lost her husband. Now under the leadership of Ibrahim. Bakayoko Niakoro's son, the workers at the railway have staged another strike against their white employers. They are protesting unfair salaries, racial discrimination at work, lack of old age pensions and family allowances. The railway services from Darker and beyond have come to a stand still due to the strike but some Africans still connive with the whites against their brothers. Cosquently food and water supplies to the Africans are cut off by the whites, life for the blacks becomes extremely hard, the women take on the role for the men, many strikers get arrested and bittery totured, lives are lost including Niakoro's and unless the workers give up the strike, the whites promise no change. Bakayoko gives the only hope to the strikers to fight on.
