Book Review By Sarah McCulloch
Across America with the Boys by Matthew Collins

Matthew Collins is a freelance writer, who decides during his midlife crisis to take his two young children on a roadtrip across america. The book is about his journey from the East coast to the West coast of America, and the things he sees and the people he meets. The book is written to pay retroactively for the trip, and many of the places that Colins visits are specifically chosen to appeal to his sons, both of whom are under 5, for example visiting Disney world, and many small time amusment parks located in the Midwest. He goes camping regularly and delights in showing his children things they had also seen in films, such as rodeo, and in letting them experience things they will not back home, like riding around in a giant camper van. When they finally make it to the other side of America, with some mishaps along the way, for example the roof of their camper van is destroyed one night in a storm, Collins goes back home to his wife, happy he has bonded with the children.
