Book Review By Rebecca Herman
Sword of Darkness by Kinley MacGregor

Kerrigan has not been human for hundreds of years. As a young boy, he discovered he had magical powers, and he was taken in by the evil Morgen, sister to King Arthur, who used him to help her overthrow Camelot. Seren is a young peasant woman living in Medieval London, who lives a life of drudgery but hopes for something better. She learns her destiny is to give birth to a child with great powers, but she is then captured by Kerrigan on Morgen's orders. Morgen fears if Seren is allowed to live free she will have the destined child who will be strong enough to destroy Morgen.

Kerrigan thinks himself pure evil but strangely he finds himself strongly attracted to the plain young woman he holds captive, yet unwilling to hurt her. Seren struggles with her attraction to such an evil man. Eventually the two become lovers, and Seren becomes pregnant. Knowing the child of Seren and Kerrigan would be extremely powerful, Morgen decides she must kill Kerrigan, let Seren live to birth the child, and then kill her as well. To his surprise, Kerrigan finds he wants to defeat Morgen not only to save himself but to protect his lover and child, a feeling he has never felt before. And Seren, determined to protect her unborn baby, has discovered she has magical powers of her own, from a heritage she never knew of. However Morgen is extremely powerful with no known weakness and defeating her will not be easy.
