Book Review By David Loftus
The Bradbury Chronicles by Sam Weller

Chicago-based journalist Weller wrote a pleasant, respectful, and authorized 2005 biography of "the man from Mars," born Rae Douglas Bradbury in Waukegan, Illinois, in 1920. The book studies Bradbury's Midwestern roots, his restless father, the aunt who nurtured his creative fantasies, his early brief acting career, and his subsequent life as a writer. Bradbury comes across as more ambitious and driven than one might think him to be from his lovely books. There are no big surprises since the book received cooperation and approval from its subject (although there are brief and discreet references to Marguerite's attempt to divorce him and Bradbury's several affairs).
