Book Review By Crystal
The Observatory by Emily Grayson

Liz Mallory had a quiet, uneventful life as the head librarian for the small library in her small hometown. She had something else too – a twin sister who looked like her but with whom she had little else in common. Harper Mallory was beautiful, headstrong, and had become a famous artist in New York City. Liz was used to seeing fortune smile on Harper, so when Harper's 8-year-old daughter is suddenly killed, it is as much a surprise to Liz as it is to Harper.

Liz drives from her hometown of Longwood Falls to Stone Point for the funeral, and afterward Liz realizes that Harper isn't in a frame of mind to care for her remaining child, a small boy of seven named Nick. Harper feels sympathy for Nick, so when Harper says she is leaving to stay at her island home for a while and will not be taking Nick, Liz volunteers to stay in Harper's house and care for him.

Liz spends much time with Nick, playing games and going for walks, and on one of those walks, Liz meets David, an attractive man who is Nick's school teacher. Liz and David start dating, and Liz falls for David. She believes the feeling is mutual until history repeats itself – she finds out that Harper and David were once involved with each other, and Liz feels once again second-best to Harper. Liz had been planning to start a new life in Stone Point with David, but rushes back to Longwood Falls and her old job. She starts dating an old boyfriend for whom she doesn't have much feelings, but she doesn't want to be alone. David calls her, but Liz doesn't return his calls, so he stops calling. Then Harper suddenly returns to Longwood Falls with an invitation for Liz.
