During a ride to get ice crea, Tatiana Metanov, a young teenage girl meets a Red Army first lieutenant Alexander Belov where they start their instant love connection. However, later discovering that Alexander is her sister, Dasha's lover she blocks out her emotions for him but is uncontrollably drawn to him . At the same time Alexander's love for Tatiana grows stronger but is separated after he is notified by his captain that hitler and his troops are attacking Russia and he must fight off the enemy.

With Leningrad surrounded by hitler's soldiers, one by one Tatiana's family members start to die away due to the lack of rations. But at the same time Dasha discovers Tatiana and Alexander's love affair, which could threaten to tear the family apart.

However, although Tatiana and Alexander's love is strong, the challenges that face before them are too much. Tatiana's sister, Dasha, the War and Alexander's dangerous secret, a secret so destructive it measures as much as the war itself may cause them to separate.
