Tender Rebel by Johanna Lindsey

Roslynn Chadwick has inherited great fortune and assets when her grandfather died. She comes to London society looking for a husband in order to secure her wealth before her cousin can manage to take it away from her. Anthony Mallory is a certified rake and a heartthrob bachelor among London's genteel women especially married women. One look at Roslynn he decides that he will be her lover after she is safely married. So he proposes to her that he will act as her adviser on eligible bachelors and trying to seduce her while he's at it. Roslynn knows that Anthony can't be trusted with anything much more her heart but she still accepts Anthony to advise her for potential husband. However when she lists off names, Anthony seems to find enough fault at each man. A failed attempt to kidnap her instigated by her cousin propelled Anthony to quickly solve her husband dilemma. He proposes marriage to her. Roslynn at first is disbelieving knowing that Anthony would be the worst husband with his rakish ways. But Anthony just can't see Roslynn marrying off to someone else if not him and so he convinces and promises Roslynn his faithfulness. The marriage starts off smoothly. Anthony hunts down Roslynn's cousin to put an end to his devious plans on Roslynn. One evening after looking for her cousin in a pub, Roslynn smells a woman's perfume on Anthony's clothes and is immediately suspicious of his fidelity. Anthony is furious that Roslynn thinks him unfaithful and refuses to explain what really happened while Roslynn doesn't want to listen to any explanations and so the marriage turns rocky. Despite the suspicions and mistrust, the attraction between them never fades. The attraction however can't keep their marriage alive as they often bicker outside the bedroom. Only with complete faith and trust can they get a chance to make their marriage work.
