The Scrolls of the Ancients by Robert Newcomb

In the third volume of The Chronicles of Blood and Stone the author continues with the tale of the Chosen One, Tristan prince of Eutracia and his continuing struggle to comprehend and fulfill his destiny of fighting against the servants of the Vagaries who seek to foil him and see that the Vagaries triumph over the Vigors. Even though Tristan and the wizards that guide him along with the others that have joined his cause are still weary from their last battle against Nicolas and the destruction of the Gates of Dawn they are given very little time to rest before they must confront the next threat to the Vigors in the form of Krassus. This dark servant of the Vagaries seeks to use the knowledge in the Scroll of the Ancients to make Tristan's previously unknown brother into the greatest threat to the Vigors that the world has every seen. In an effort to somehow stop his brother from succeeding in his quest to make the Vagaries supreme Tristan must gather his allies, including the beautiful privateer Tyranny as well as his loyal Minion warriors and confront his brother Wulfgar in a fateful confrontation to determine a victor. Yet victory for Tristan is uncertain though for while he remains untrained in the Vigors his brother has become a trained expert in the Vagaries thanks to the Forestallments placed in his blood and the teaching of the wizard Krassus. Along with his superior knowledge Wulfgar also possesses his own army of slavers as well as other creatures of the craft in superior numbers to the Chosen Ones own forces...
