In this the third book of the trilogy Deborah Chester brings all of the loose threads and important characters together in the long promised battle that the two previous books has been leading up to. Dain has come into his own finally and matured into a strong leader that others look to as well as finally being recognized as the long-lost heir to the kingdom of Nether and he sets out to win his throne back from the usurper Muncel and take what is rightfully his by birthright. Along the way he collects allies in the fight against the usurper including Count Romsalkin, the Agya leader Ingor Matkevskiet and the sorcerel Samderaudin and with these forces he marches on the capitol of Grov in an effort to force Muncel and his evil Gantese allies to fight him to determine a victor. Along the way however he is captured by Believers and taken to Gant along with Princess Alexeika and his friend and squire Thum. In a daring escape he manages to escape although in the struggle Thum is badly injured and is long in the healing. Once he united with his army Dain makes his way to the capitol only to realize at the last moment that Muncel has set a trap in the form of the now undead Prince Gavril as well as sounding the attack while Dain's army is spread out through the city. In the ensuing battle against Gavril Dain is grievously injured. | ||
