Book Review By Katharine Schwab
Love Among the Walnuts by Jean Ferris

Horatio Alger Huntington-Ackerman is a very wealthy man. However, he is terribly unhappy. That all changed when he married his wife, Mousey, and moved to the country. The happy couple built a huge house and named it Eclipse. It is right next door to Walnut Manor, which is a facility for “nutcases.” Mousey gives birth to a young boy, Alexander, nicknamed Sandy. The three of them live with Bentley, the butler, and his wife, Flossie. They thought that their life was perfect. Problems arise when Horatio's brothers, Bart and Bernie, come to visit. Bart and Bernie were after Horatio's money and would stop at nothing to get it.
Deceptively, Bart and Bernie bring a birthday cake, to “celebrate all the missed birthdays at Eclipse.” Everyone has a piece, except Sandy and Bentley. The next morning, Sandy and Bentley discover that Horatio, Mousey, and Flossie had gone into light comas, along with their pet chicken, Attila. In order to take care of the patients, Sunnie, a nurse right out of medical school comes to stay at Eclipse. Soon, however, the patients are forced to move to a medical facility. Sandy, Bentley, and Sunnie decide to move them to Walnut Manor. Sunnie stays with the patients and sleeps in a room adjoining theirs.
Some of the other patients include an extremely fat teenager, a man who is a multi-millionaire, but can't remember anything about business, and a man whose only words are “cat-molester.” Once Sunnie arrives at Walnut Manor, everything begins to change. She understands what everyone needs to heal. But will she be able to help heal Horatio, Mousey, Flossie, and their pet chicken, Attila? Will Sandy be able to prove that Bart and Bernie are guilty of attempted murder? What is really going on at Walnut Manor?
