| It is the Ryan's annual father/daughter campout and Hannah waits at home for her family to return. She is overwhelmed with nerves because her family is late returning from their trip. Then a policeman comes to her door - her family has been in an accident. They were hit by a drunken driver and her husband and one of her daughters are dead.
Hannah is filled with anger towards her husband for leaving her and for the drunken driver that took her family from her. She becomes bitter towards everyone around her. While her remaining daughter, Jenny, is struggling with her grief and sense of loss, Hannah buries herself in bringing the drunk driver to justice. She prepares presentations to speak out against drunk driving. She works with Matt, the district attorney, as he prepares to bring the drunken driver to justice. However, Hannah is so wrapped up in her grief and anger that she neglects Jenny and doesn't realize that Jenny is struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. It takes Jenny's suicide attempt to make Hannah realize that there she may lose Jenny too if she doesn't let go of the anger and hate she has bottled up inside. | ||
