Never a Lady by Jacquie D'Alessandro

    Colin Oliver, Viscount Sutton, is a man on a mission to find a wife. He has disturbing nightmares and feels that the time to find a wife and provide a heir is upon him, so he leaves his estate in cornwall and goes to London. Upon arriving in London, he encounters a fortune teller who he remembers meeting five years earlier when she tried to pick his pocket. It was an encounter that had haunted him for the past five years because he could not get the beautifully desperate woman out of his head.
    Alexandra, Madame Larchmont, was once a a thief, but managed to make a career from tarot card readings, in which she became extremely popular doing at London balls. When she the man she attempted to pickpocket years earlier, her instincts tell her to flee, and while making her escape, she inadverately hears the plot of murder. Colin and Alexandra meet in the garden, foiling her escape and the fates become intertwined.
    Alexandra reveals the plot she heard to Colin, hoping he will be able to help stop the murder, but things go awry when Alexandra herself becomes the killer's target. To protect her, Colin takes her into protective custody, and during her stay, their passions flair. Soon their deep attraction turns to love, but first they must defy society due to her poor status and his high nobility. As their love blossoms, the killer makes his move, making the couple realize their love's potential, even as they fight for each other's lives.
