Louis North is the illegitimate daughter of the King of England. The King used the Simon Tremaine, the Duke of Foxmoor, to falsely court Louisa, so he could see her because her guardian and brother would not let him. Louisa fell deeply in love with Simon, and when she learned of his deceit, had her father send him to India to be Governor for seven years.
Upon Simon's return, the King approaches him once more, knowing Simon still has feeling for Louisa, and asks him to court her for marriage, and in the process, he promises him that he will make him Prime Minister, which would help Simon fulfill his dream of reforming England's government. Simon agrees to the proposition, knowing that Louisa does not trust him due to their past. Louisa, who still loves Simon in heart, has decided that she will never marry, especially after seeing her half-sister, Princess Charlotte, die horribly in the childbirth bed. She also has a political agenda, helping the poor women and children who reside in Newgate prison, trying to relieve the horrible treatment they recieve from the wardens. As Simon actively pursues Louisa, their old passion flares back up, even though Louisa still does not trust him. Simon begins to help Louisa with their cause, and the two get caught in a compromising position, forcing them to wed. Louisa, who begins to trust Simon once more, finds out the truth of his agreement with her father. The couple must get past Louisa's distrust, Simon's dark past and her fears of childbearing before they can find path for a happy, loving marriage. | ||
