Sleeping with the Boss by Maureen Child

Eileen Ryan has been manipulated into taking the temporary secretarial job working for her childhood enemy Rick Hawkins. Eileen has a small flower business store but 2 weeks of vacation leave where she has been stood up by her friend leaves her with nothing to do. She hates being a secretary especially after her last boss used her and forgot about her after getting his promotion. But since she doesn't like idle time in her hands she accepts the job despite having negative impression about the boss. Rick is surprised with the changes in Eileen. It has been 6 years since he has last seen her and the instant attraction he feels for her is surprising and will torment him for the next two weeks. Eileen feels the same way especially when she has had a crush on him when she has been an adolescent. Eileen is an efficient secretary and because having history as childhood friends, they have a companionable atmosphere between them during work and outside work. In one unguarded moment, they act on their passion and sleep together. They get into a relationship but it turns out complicated when during sex they find out the condom broke. And true enough she becomes pregnant and Rick quickly proposes marriage to her. Eileen refuses her proposal seeing that Rick is terrified of marriage and he's doing it for the baby's sake because Rick has the childhood experience of not being cared and wanted by his own parents. He decides that his treatment to his own child will be different. Eileen finally agrees to marry him and they have a Las Vegas quick wedding. But a month later she still is confused if she has made the right choice. She loves Rick and she is sad that it is only one-sided love. Although Rick gives her the refuge of marriage, he is absent most of the time, often busy with his work. Eileen figures that Rick is waiting for her to leave him proving him right that no people stick by his side for long as what has happened to him when his parents abandoned him. When she confronts him with it, Rick makes her so mad and sad that she actually leaves him proving him right. However Rick feels differently this time when Eileen left him. He realizes that he loves her and that he can't live without her and he is determined to set things right with her again before it's too late.
