Lord of Falcon Ridge by Catherine Coulter

Cleve is a freeman turned diplomat assigned to arrange the marriage of Chessa, Princess of Ireland, to William of Normandy, nephew and heir to Duke Rollo. Chessa is daughter of the king of Ireland who used to be Hormonze. a wizard. She is kidnapped by Ragnor of York who is being forced by his mother to marry with Chessa.

A storm blows Ragnor's ship off course and they take refuge on Hawkfell Island where Chessa convinces everyone that she want to marry Cleve. After much discussion she is wedded to Cleve and Ragnor is sent away.

Cleve and Chessa and Cleve's daughter journey to Loch Ness to find his family (he has been gone over 20 year) only to find that his father is a sorcerer. When he learns that Chessa is the daughter of Hormonze he plots to have her. Cleve now finds that he must rescue his wife from the clutches of his father.

How is it that Cleve set out to arrange a marriage only to find himself married to the bride? Why is Chessa so popular as a prospective bride to so many leaders of the day? Why is Ragnor of York such a bumbling fool? How can a woman be pregnant so many times and still be a virgin?
