Music of the Night by Colby Hornsby

Waiting for a connecting flight in an airline's business center, Catherine signs on to AOL, and the screen name Camelotappears on her Buddy List. Thinking it's her sister, she begins a message about the unpleasant scene in France and her early return to the States. She quickly realizes she must have mistyped her sister's name when she created a new Buddy List for the laptop she took to Europe. What should have been Camelot59 Catherine had entered as simply Camelot.

Wondering who this is, she sends an instant message to the source. Who are you? Do I know you? These simple questions are to change her life. Michael Marino (Camelot) describes himself as fifty, widowed, and developing his twenty-two acre estate and equestrian facility in the Hamptons. He adds that he competes show-jumpers and loves to tango.

They begin exchanging emails that soon become volumes of letters and romantic prose, sharing their feelings and longings. Telling herself this harmless diversion is filling the emotional void in her life, Catherine is convinced this online flirtation is innocent and safe. Still, she is determined to see this Camelot in person and plans a meeting in New York three months later on her birthday.

Michael is far more enchanting than she ever imagined, and their evening evolves into a night of passion. Elevated to ecstasy such as she had never felt before, she believes him to be the man of her dreams.

In the months that follow, their e-mails continue, but his are unsettling in their inconsistency. Confused and hurt, she travels to the opulent playgrounds he says he frequents, searching for answers.
