| Clare Wingate is an only child of a prim and proper mother. She is a Historical Romance author much to her mothers chagrin. Her mother tells people she write Women's Fiction and won't admit it is romance which infuriated Clare. The only person her mother seems to like these days is Clare's fiancé Lonny. The problem is that on her best friends wedding day Clare finds Lonny in a compromising position with the Sears Repairman. She sees enough to know that Lonny prefers to play for the “other team” and breaks it off with him. She is so distraught that she over indulges during the reception and wakes up naked in a hotel room. Unfortunately for her lack of memory while the other occupant of the room is one hot man who she thinks looks familiar she doesn't remember anything after giving the toast at the reception. This isn't the first time this has happened to her, it is something of a behavior from a breakup that seems to be becoming a pattern for her.
Sebastian is a bit stunned at who he finds in the bar at the hotel. It looks like little Clare has grown up and filled out in all the right places. She had been a cute but awkward young girl but is a beautiful woman. She is also way past drunk. Sebastian who is in town to visit his father after many years estranged and decided that he can't let her put herself in a situation where she will regret it later. He takes her back to her room and sits with her until she falls asleep. But, apparently when he falls asleep on the couch she stumbles out of bed strips and lays on him. He decides to put her back in bed then take a shower. She wakes while he is in the shower, so while nothing has happened she thinks something has. He lets her as it amuses him to think this. Clare has decided that she has now given up on romance and will stick to her career and stay away from picking a man for herself as her track record has not only gone down hill but hit rock bottom. But, she finds she is drawn to Sebastian more and more as they spend time together. She decides to proposition him with a friend with benefits idea. This starts out ok for both of them. Unfortunately they both realize they want more but are afraid to approach the other. Clare helps him to understand his father and how they might be able to mend fences. She also helps her mother plan a big party for Leo (Sebastian's father) which puts them together more and more. Eventually Clare realizes that she has fallen so in love with Sebastian that she has to tell him and chance ruining what her friends had dubbed a good thing. She does and not only does he run but he runs fast. | ||
