Book Review By Bobby Blades
Wild Fire by Nelson DeMille

In the fourth novel to feature ex-NYPD detective John Corey, Nelson Demille delivers a taut mix of politics and mystery in Wild Fire. The story really gets moving when ATTF agent Harry Muller is assigned to do surveilence work on the "Custer Hill Club" in upstate New York. After cutting through the fence and making his way onto the sprawling estate, he sets off motion detectors and is corralled by a bunch of guards. He is detained and a long discussion ensues between Muller and president of the Custer Hill Club(and Go-Co Oil)Bane Madox. Muller tries to escape but is shot with a tranquilizer dart. The story then shifts back to Corey as he gets back from a weekend getaway with his wife Kate. They get assigned to the task of finding out what happened to Muller, and they head upstate to do just that. This where the story settles into Corey unraveling of the disappearance of Muller. Once Corey and his wife Kate figure out what happened on the Madox's compound they also stumble onto Madox's plan to set off suitcase nuclear devices in US cities and put Wild Fire (America's response to a nuclear attack) into motion. Corey and Kate do their best to fend off Bane's thugs while trying to prevent the devices from going off. A thrilling story with plenty of Corey's sarcastic dialogue.
