    Alex Scarston, the Earl of Selbourne, is a spy who has been asked to do a special favor for his brother's in laws, the Dashings. Alex, who had been deeply undercover in France for over five years, comes back to find that little Lucia Dashing has grown up to be a beautiful and passionate woman. Alex, whose father has left deep emotional scars against marriage, denies his feeling for the charming woman.
    Lucia has always had a secret crush on Alex, even though she knows nothing can come of it, since her father wants her to marry a man that can further is political ambitions. When Lucia's twin brother is found to be missing, she insists on working with Alex to find him, even though he pushes her away.   As the two begin their search, they find their passions overcome them and they spend a passionate night together, only to be abducted by French spies in the morning.
    As the two are shipped across the Channel to France, Lucia learns that alex is a spy and her brother is has been also working in the field. As their love grows, they fight to get to Paris to rescue her brother and find the traitor who has been selling out English agents. As the culprit is revealed, Alex's misgivings keep the couple apart, and only after the intrigue is finished, can Alex find a way to follow his heart to Lucia.
