The Girl Who Invented Romance by Caroline B. Cooney

Sixteen-year-old Kelly Williams is starting to wonder if she'll ever find true romance like her parents have or like her brother has. Her father is always bringing her mother presents, and her brother is madly in love with a girl who seems to love him back. But then everything starts to fall apart. Her brothers girlfriend leaves him, her father and mother start fighting over a high school reunion, and even her best friend is getting heartbroken-over someone she never had.
That's when Kelly decides to make a board game for a school project. She calls it Romance.
