Book Review By Katharine Schwab
The Singer of All Songs by Kate Constable

Calwyn, a novice ice priestess living behind the Wall of Antaris, has never seen anything beyond the Wall. She sings her chantments, which help keep the Wall of ice strong, and she tends her bees, but most of all she thinks about what life would be like beyond the Wall. One day, as she is singing a chantment, she discovers a wounded man on the inside of the Wall. This has never happened before, so Calwyn takes him to the High Priestess Marna, who sends him to the infirmary. Calwyn soon discovers the man's name is Darrow, and since she is the only one he will talk with, she spends her days listening to him tell stories of the world beyond the Wall. She learns that he can also sing chantments, but his are chantments of ironcraft. Darrow also tells her of Samis, his once best friend and now sworn enemy. Samis wants to be the Singer of all Songs, master of the chantment of all the different lands of Tremaris. He is now hunting Darrow for standing in his way. Soon, Samis finds Darrow at Antaris and Calwyn and Darrow flee together. They pass through lands of which Calwyn has never seen, trying to find more chanters to help them overcome Samis.
