Book Review By Nathaniel Ford
The Adams Family by James Truslow Adams

Long before the American people had ever heard of the Kennedy family or the Bush family, or the Roosevelt family, the Adams family was America's most distinguished political family of the late 18th and 19th centuries. This family would produce two presidents, congressmen, and cabinet members, and noted historians. This family rose from the obscurity of their village, Charlton Mackrell, to worldwide fame.
Even though Americans consider themselves to be democratic, we are still intrigued by the idea of a royal family, we are intrigued by the idea of hereditary titles, and we are intrigued by the idea that things like intellect and courage can be passed on through the genes. That is why, throughout history, the American people have often looked to specific families to solve the problems of a complex and obstinate world.
