Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife has 4 murders, 3 unfaithful husbands, 3 bastard children, an heiress who is the by blow of a footman, and a colonel in love with his cousin's wife. What more could you want in a book. In it all Elizabeth and Darcy discover a love no romance novelist could dream up.

The story begins with a detailed description of the wedding night spent in the Darcy townhouse in London and move to Pemberly where Elizabeth finds her way a mistress. She more to handle than Darcy thought she would be and he eventually learns that his word is not always law. Georgianna comes into her own under the tutelage of Elizabeth and is found to be almost as strong willed as her brother. When Colonel Fitzwilliam goes off to war she leaves home and follows him to France and after he is seriously wounded nurses him back to health. Darcy follows her to France to retrieve her not knowing that Elizabeth is pregnant 5 years after a stillbirth.

Wickham's true parentage is discovered. He too has gone to France and deserts after killing his bastard son who is the only witness to his desertion. Wickham having killed the only witness is listed as dead. Lydia is only inconvenienced by having to wear black for a year.

Jane believes that sex is only for procreation causing Blingley to stray even though he professes to still love her. Lady Catherine's deceased husband was impotent so where did Lady Anne come from?

With each crisis at Pemberly Darcy has to readjust his thinking of those he loves. The only constant is his passion for Elizabeth and there trust in each other.
