Victoria ‘Tory' Bodeen was suppose to go out and meet her best friend Hope Lavelle down in the marshes that night. Her father, however, decided to beat her again, and Tory was too sore to make it down there. About twenty years later Tory decides to return to the spot where Hope was killed to try and find out what had happened to her.
Tory has a gift that is able to help her; she is able to read people's minds, a psychic. While trying to find out who had killed her best friend she befriends Hope's brother Cade. Cade is one of the few people that she has met that isn't freaked out by her ability to look in to other people's minds. Finding Hope's killer isn't the only thing that is keeping Tory busy, her father is trying to make her pay for leaving him shortly after the murder had happened.
