| When Commander Whitney interrupts Eve and Roarke's video night to ask her to report to the scene of a crime, Eve knows that it is something serious.
A young woman has been tortured and killed. Her dead body is found with a ring on her finger and the time she took to die is etched on her body. Eve realizes that the master of death, nicknamed 'The Groom' in media circles, is back in New York. Years ago when Eve and Feeney were working as partners, they had worked a series of like crimes but were unable to catch the killer. This time around, the roles are reversed and Eve will lead the case as primary and she has to make sure that she does not miss a single detail. More young women are murdered in the next few days. This time around, the killer has made a particular addition to his criteria for selecting his victim. They all belong to the same age group, have the same colouring and physical appearance and all 'belong' to Roarke or work for him. This leads top criminal psychologist Dr. Mira to believe that the killer may have chosen Eve to be his final victim. As the investigation proceeds, Eve realizes that the etching of numbers on a dead body was a technique used in the Urban Wars and she also identifies witnesses who may have spoken to the killer when he scoped his victims. Eve has to make sure that the killer is caught this time and does not escape through any loophole of the law, even if she has to cross a few lines herself. | ||
