Book Review By Susan
Knight of a Trillion Stars by Dara Joy

Deanna Jones thought that life couldn't get any worse; she had just lost her job as a secretary, she had no family, and the weather was horrible. Then a man from another world landed in her kitchen. His name was Lorgin ta'al Krue, a Charl warrior from Avaria, a world in another time and dimension. Not knowing what else to do with the man since he refused to leave her alone, she takes him with her to California to a science-fiction writers' convention. There, he discovers she wears the Shimalee, a stone of great power and mystery. He does as destiny has decreed, he marries her, without her knowledge for who knew what this guys customs were like, and takes her to his dimension, if not Avaria. There, it is decided that they must go on a mission to stop the mad Theadar, another Charl mystic, from destroying the galaxy with his phasing stones, which can shift time and space, as the Shimalee can. They journey together with his brother Rejar who can change into a cat to a desert world to find his cousin Traed. Traed is Theadar's son, and it is hoped that he will be able to help. However, he doesn't make it easy for the three to convince him to return to Avaria. Meanwhile, Lorgin is having a rather difficult time convincing Deanna, whom he calls Adeann, to act as a wife and accept that she will stay with him on Avaria. That doesn't stop them from having a passionate time together during their journey. Traed finally agrees to go to Avaria with them, and they go right away, for time is running out. Before going after Theadar, they stay at Lorgin's home for a while, and he and Deanna grow closer together and more tolerant of each other. Just before the true test of courage comes, Deanna asks Yaniff to take her home, for she doesn't believe she is the woman of Lorgin's destiny. He agrees, though he knows she will not go, especially after Lorgin finds out that she is pregnant, which she doesn't even know herself. No matter that Lorgin desn't like the idea, Deanna goes with Yaniff, Traed, Rejar, and Lorgin to the place where Theadar is planning to bring Traed's mother back to life by taking her from the past and into the future. There is a fight, and he tries to kill Deanna. Traed steps in front of Deanna to protect her, for the others have been rendered helpless. Last minute, Theadar retracts the power bolt that he had shot toward Deanna, realizing he was about to kill his son. He is instantly killed. The warriors go home, and Deanna decides to stay with the man she loves.
