English journalist Geoffrey Lockwood fell in love with a young Intourist guide in Russia while traveling the Soviet Union for a critical book in the early 1970s. He can't get back to her, or even get word to her. In her fourth adventure, Lockwood's cleaning lady Ada Harris goes to Moscow with the harebrained idea of bringing the lovely girl back to London. Of course Mrs. Harris takes her friend Violet Butterfield, but the two old ladies quickly run afoul of the KGB (which was expecting them in advance), and find help in unlikely and unforeseen places. This unfailingly charming tale gives a quick portrait of downtown Moscow before the Iron Curtain fell. | ||
