Heir to the Empire - Star Wars Thrawn Trilogy 1 by Timothy Zahn

A new, brilliant tactician (called Grand Admiral Thrawn) has seized control of the Imperial fleet, and is directing it extremely effectively against the New Republic. As an effort to further the war, Thrawn attempts to control an evil Jedi Master. To do this, he must capture Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa Solo and her unborn twins.
