Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

Harry, Hermione and Ron are back for their second year at Hogwarts; but it is far from a happy reunion. Students, not of pure wizard blood, are being attacked and there are rumors that a mysterious portal called the Chamber of Secrets has been opened by the descendent of Salazar Slytherin, a founder of Hogwarts notorious for his turning to the Dark Arts. Harry and his friends decide to investigate the mystery and Hermione is attacked. Once again Harry faces his own mortality to save the world from darkness.
