Book Review By Jordan Graeme DeVille
The Enchanted Doll by Paul Gallico

Dr. Samuel Amony is walking down the street, when suddenly he sees a doll in the corner of a local tabacco shop. He is immediately drawn to it and cannot stop thinking about it. He decides to buy the doll and send it to his neice, but even as he is sending it, he feels drawn to keep it for himself. He eventually sends it and caught up in the monotony of his work forgets about it for a month or so. One day he is called and asked to see a new patient. When he comes to the house a woman in her forties lets him in. She tells him that her niece is sick. She, as it turns out is the maker of the dolls. When Dr. Amony eventually comes to the conclusion that making the dolls is causing her sickness he suggests that she stop. This leads to his being fired. As time goes on Dr. Amony begins to show signs of the same disease, but when examined by a fellow doctor, he is in perfect health. Eventually, Dr. Amony realizes that he is in love with the niece and that she was sick because of an absence of love. He rushes over to her apartment and explains this all to her, just as her aunt gets home. The niece realizes that she loves him as well, and they are married.
