After her older brother goes mad with desire to inheirit their father's title and attempts to kill their older half-brother so that he can, Emily's family is destroyed by scandal. Unable to take any more of the whispers and stares, Emily leaves London to visit her half-brother and his new wife in Scotland. In Scotland, Emily meets Jamie, her half-brother's cousin, and though they get off to a very bad start, they soon begin to discover feelings for each other.
