From Potter's Field by Patricia Cornwell

When a young woman is murdered and propped up against a fountain in a New York park, Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta suspects based on the similar M.O. that it is the handiwork of Temple Brooks Gault, a serial killer who has eluded capture for years. Along with Pete Marino, Benton Wesley and her niece Lucy, Scarpetta travels to New York with the hopes of apprehending Gault. The book ends dramatically with a final desperate confrontation deep within the bowels of the New York subway system.
