Book Review By Vinland Dreamer
The Long Secret by Louise Fitzhugh

This book contains the continuing adventures of Harriet the Spy. Harriet wants to be a writer when she grows up, and she practices her craft by observing the people around her and writing about them in her secret notebook. In HARRIET THE SPY, this behavior gets Harriet in trouble. In THE LONG SECRET, however, Harriet's observational skills allow her to uncover the mystery of who is leaving notes all around the town.

It seems as if the notes are coming from a religious fanatic, because they say things such as, "Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning that they may follow strong drink" and "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

Harriet investigates all over town with her best friend Beth Ellen in tow. All summer long they work together on solving this mystery. It's not until the end, though, that Harriet realizes that it is her own friend who has been leaving the notes.
