Book Review By Les Broad
The Life Story Of Lillie Paice by Lillie Evans

Lillie Evans was born in Britain in the early years of the 20th century, to a family that was poor but getting by. Then her parents died, one after the other, leaving the young Lillie in desperate poverty and in an institution for orphans. The story of her survival, the menial, degrading jobs she had to take, the attitude to her of those employing her and her eventual achievement of happiness in marriage and family life is uplifting, and should make all of us who were born later give thanks for the luxuries we have always taken for granted. It is a short book written very much as Lillie dictated it when she was 90, but has an intensely personal feel to it. Nobody reading this story will remain unmoved by it.
