Book Review By Robert Stiles
Warrior by Donald E. McQuinn

Long after the nuclear winter, humanity struggles to survive, living much as the Native Americans did hundreds of years ago. Amid this turbulent world, the Dog People struggle to maintain their independence in the face of an emerging empire ruled by a brutal king named Altanar, ruler of Ola. Tricked by his rivals into killing a fellow tribesman in what he thought to be an honorable combat, Gan Moondark, the son of the chief of the Dog People, embarks on a dangerous journey across the what used to be the Northwestern United States.

He links up with many people to aid him in his quest, such as the Rose Priestess Sylah, and Tate, a female soldier transported from the distant past. Together, they battle their way across the Northwest, ulimately finding their way to the kingdom of Harbundai, where they ally themselves with a Baron who is menaced by backstabbing nobles at home, and the sadistic, power-mad King Altanar abroad. Altanar, who has come to have several of Tate's friends (who were transported with her) and has them replicate the wonderous technology of the past for his use in conquest. Gan begins to form strategic alliances necessary to destroy the bloodthirsty king, but even if he can, how can he unite peoples so deeply divided?
