Night Fire by Catherine Coulter

The main female character is married to a husband who tortures her, yet he's old, fat, and impotent. An English lord major who fought in the Napoleonic Wars dreams about coming home to her, finds she distrusts men, kidnaps her, forces her to marry him, and she eventually falls head over heels in love with him. They start leading a good life until the mean old man's son tries to rape and beat her again, but eventually, she's saved by her second husband.
