This is a children's picture book that retells Brundibar, an opera performed frequently in Terezin. Two children need milk for their sick mother, but have no money to purchase it. Their attempts to sing for money are foiled by Brundibar. Eventually a group of animals convinces these two children to recruit a group of children to sing enmasse. This attempt succeeds, and the townspeople drive Brundibar away. The illustrations contain oblique references to Hitler and the Holocaust that are not likely to be picked up by any readers except adults. | ||
