Dorrith Sim tells her own story as a member of the Kindertransport. Using short sentences, simple language, and brightly colored illustrations, In My Pocket recounts a nameless child's (Dorrith's) trip to England and her experience upon arrival. The train trip to Holland, the boat trip to England, and the experience of acceptance within Scotland are addressed. The child protagonist tells of learning English using the phrase "in my pocket" as a mneumonic device. She eventually receives a letter from her parents still in Germany, and keeps this too in her pocket until the war ends. | ||
