Book Review By James Craver
Hammerhead Ranch Motel by Tim Dorsey

In Tim Dorsey's second book, the sequel to Florida Roadkill, we are reunited with Serge A. Storms, spree killer and Floridaphile, as he continues his search for the suitcase containing $5 million in laundered drug-money.

Early in the novel, Serge finally gets his hands on the elusive, silver case but loses it to car thieves, who, in turn, are robbed by a con man, and so on, until the case falls into the hands of drug-lord Zargozsa, alias Harry Fiddlebottom, the owner of the Hammerhead Ranch Motel, a sleazy eyesore used as ground-zero by countless small-time criminals.

As Serge kills his way along the route taken by the case, he joins forces with Lenny Lippowicz, a former tabloid story-fabricator and Don Johnson impersonator now selling counterfeit moon-rocks out of Room 1 of Hammerhead Ranch.

Along for the ride is the usual assortment of oddball characters, including Paul the Passive-Agressive PI, a Hemingway look-alike named Jethro, Johnny Vegas the Accidental Virgin, a bigoted DJ known as Boris the Hateful Piece of Sh**, and many more.

The plot reaches its cataclysmic climax as the protaganists gather in the bunker-like bar of the Hammerhead Ranch to wait out a hurricane and wage war for the loot.
