Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede

Cimorene runs away to the dragons of the Mourning Mountains. The dragon Kazul takes Cimorene as her princess. While Cimorene is with Kazul, knights come and try to rescue her, but she keeps telling them she doesn't want to be rescued because she likes it in the Mourning Mountains.
