Net Force by Tom Clancy

Alex Micheals is the lieutenant commander of the FBI organzation, Net Force. The Commander, Steve Day, is murdered by hitmen, and Michaels is forced into the position of Commander.

Michaels, along with the rest of Net Force, tries to hunt down Day's killers, but is sidetracked by a Russian computer hacker, bent on destroying the electronics world. Michaels is also in danger of assasins targeting him, as Day's succesor.
