Dan Silas returns to Hollybush High School Michigan to be guest speaker at his high school 30 year re-union. Dan left the States to live in London at the age of 18 and has become a successful advertising executive. The company he owned having recently been bought out by the Japanese.
Dan has just split up acrimoniously with his girlfriend Stephanie. Back in the States he meets up with Gene, the class re-union organiser who fills him in on the comings and goings of his former schoolmates. At the re-union he meets his school sweetheart Gloria who he had a tryst with on Thomas Jefferson's bed in a museum. She reveals that she got pregnant that day and unbeknown to Dan had a daughter who has since been recently murdered by a serial killer. She gets Dan to visit the killer in prison to ascertain if he has any message for Gloria. But this doesn't work out and Dan has to lie to Gloria that the killer is repentant. One of Dan's classmates Gary is mentally ill and thinks he is a Native American Indian. Dan visits him on several occasions and agrees to help get some artefacts from the British Museum. The book explores the nature of differing memories and of rekindled friendship. | ||
